Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Wins the Daytona 500 in a Historic Race
An Unforgettable Victory
Ricky Stenhouse Jr., born October 2, 1987, made history on April 28, 2024, when he won the Daytona 500, the most prestigious race in stock car racing. Driving the No. 47 Chevrolet for JTG Daugherty Racing, Stenhouse overcame a long and grueling race to claim his first Daytona 500 victory.
The Longest Race in History
The 2023 Daytona 500 will be remembered as the longest in NASCAR history. The race was extended to 212 laps, surpassing the previous record set in 1960. The race went into double overtime and ended under caution, marking only the second time a Daytona 500 has ended under yellow.
An Unexpected Ally
Stenhouse's victory was made all the more remarkable by the assistance he received from an unexpected source. AJ Allmendinger, driving the No. 16 Chevrolet, pushed Stenhouse's car to the finish line, helping him to secure the win. Allmendinger had been Stenhouse's teammate at JTG Daugherty Racing before leaving for Kaulig Racing.
A Historic Triumph
Stenhouse's win marked a significant moment in his career and in the history of the Daytona 500. It was his first victory in the Great American Race and his second Cup Series win overall. The victory also made him the first driver born in the 1980s to win the Daytona 500.
